Oakland neighborhoods have been experiencing more frequent Sideshows and we all have different perspectives on what could or should be done to reduce risk that comes when many cars and people intersect.
A group of East Oakland neighbors started talking on the Nextdoor app and many people in Community Councils have considered starting or already have started Action Committees to co-create solutions that include and work for everyone.
Please join us to hear ideas, share ideas, and even learn what Oakland Middle School kids have designed to address the topic in a fair and equitable manner that strives to retain what people love about a the range of elements in Sideshows while also adding safety and security into the mix.
Be prepared to have candid and open conversations as you join us in these discussions because this is a multi-faceted challenge that requires interested parties to listen and consider everyone's perspective. There is no simple, cut and dry answer or solution, so we must collaborate and be creative - together - to be fair to all who are involved and or impacted by Sideshow events.
Thank you to everyone in advance for joining us with solutions in mind and stories to share! I think it's safe to say we'll have many conversations on this topic if you can't join this first one.
