Beautification
To build upon a group of individuals who’ve already adopted blocks in Melrose and recruited neighbors to pick up litter on Saturdays to be picked up by Oakland Public Works, other groups have been discussing clearing out and preparing walking paths and spaces to sit throughout Melrose.
The Beautification Action Committee will work to clean up and work on reviving beautiful areas that need a little TLC then share status with Melrose Community members when they have status, requests for volunteers, or if they’re asking for help with Letter Writing Campaigns that may help our collective cause of beautification in Melrose.

Litter Pickup
Razzu Engen has been working on a project to clean up litter on a block he adopted through the City of Oakland Public Works. The arrangement allows him to get together with a group of volunteers and pick up little on a block or more then leave it at a predefined address provided by Public Works so they can come pick up what Razzu and the team have collected.
Another member suggested that each person is budgeted one large, bulky item, pickup day per year by the city, and if everyone got together and donated their one day per year and put it on a normal schedule we might be able to have bulky pickup running every day or so in Melrose. What a great idea!
Come talk to Razzu at the next Community Council meeting to learn how to join him and his team.
Walking Paths
Members have been talking about finding nice areas around Melrose that could become beautiful meeting spaces with a little work. The idea would be to create something like a walking tour that frequents these cool meeting spaces and get people outside and in the sun talking with neighbors.
The more we can be outside and present in our community the better.
This group might also collaborate with folks that are talking about creating a Garden Action Committee. Come to our next Community Council meeting and chat with neighbors about what we can do with this concept.
