Oct. 23: Melrose Victim Impact Letters to DOT re; Traffic Deaths on Foothill are Working

Our community members have witnessed 4 traffic-related deaths in the last 6 months on Foothill Blvd.

Melrose community members decided to take immediate action following the last death on Oct. 1 on Foothill and Cole to write letters the our four representative Council Members, the Mayor’s office, the Department of Transportation, and the Oakland Police Department to demand immediate protections and actions to protect Melrose neighbors and our nearby communities.

We wrote 4-5 of these letters and sent them in about a 2-day period and had a meeting scheduled with the City of Oakland’s Public Policy Director for Mayor Libby Schaaf within a day or so.

Come to Oct. 23, 2019 monthly meeting at Horace Mann Elementary from 6:45-8:30pm to hear what happened in that meeting and learn how your individual letters make a difference.

Here is an example of one letter sent about two weeks ago we used as a template for many others to write their own version and send to the City too.

You can join us and write your own letters by using our templates here.
