Feb. 22, 2020: District 4 Local Heroes Event Includes Braunz Courtney & Marissa Bowman of Melrose

Here is a message from District 4 Councilmember Sheng Thao promoting their Local Heros event where Melrose’s own Braunz Courtney and Marissa Bowman have been added to the ranks of Oakland neighborhood heroes! Here is Sheng’s announcment to join the event today at 11am:

Today is our District 4 Local Heroes! This will be a big, family-friendly community event that will feature local leaders that have worked every day to make Oakland a better place. Not only will there be FREE food BBQ'd by your favorite firefighters (don't worry vegetarians, there'll be veggie patties), but we'll also have tons of great entertainment from local performers like Giant Puppets Save the World, Lion Dancers from the Buk Sing Fu Kung Fu Academy and DJ Square keeping us all moving! We'll also be joined by our very own Stomper! Following the Local Heroes ceremony, the annual Lunar New Year Lion Dance Parade will take place in the Laurel Business District from 1:30 pm-4:30 pm. A traditional Chinese Lion Dance procession Lead by Sifu "Master" Lacy from the Buk Sing Kung Fu Academy of Fremont, will travel down MacArthur Boulevard blessing local Laurel District businesses along the way. I also wanted to thank all our sponsors for making this event happen! Without your partnership we would never have been able to arrange such an awesome event with great food and fun!

I’ll see you all there,
